NVR training

Non-Violent Resistance awareness-raising course (half-day)

An introduction to a range of practical Non-Violent Resistance approaches. This session provides information about what NVR is (and is not). It will help parents, carers and practitioners decide whether Non-Violent Resistance would be beneficial in specific situations where child to parent violence (verbal and/or physical) is a regular occurrence.

Adoption UK Cymru holds regular open courses in NVR awareness, which can be accessed on our training page

Putting NVR into practice

Our popular 3-day face-to-face NVR course is now available online, as 6 x half-day sessions. The course builds on the awareness-raising sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about all the NVR approaches, rehearse and put them into practice. There is additional support between sessions and access to our online NVR support groups as required.

One-to-one NVR training sessions for individual families.

This service is commissioned by Regional Adoption Services in Wales and is delivered over six sessions.
To commission any of our NVR training, please contact Adoption UK Cymru

NVR online support groups

The support groups are open to adoptive parents who are members of Adoption UK and have received previous NVR support/training from Adoption UK Cymru.

There are currently three groups – one for parents of primary age children (evening group), one for parents of secondary age children and older (daytime group) and one for parents from the Mid and West Wales and North Wales Adoption Services. Each group runs once a month.

One-to-one support by phone or video call

Our helpline staff can arrange pre-booked phone or video calls with our NVR Practitioner, Philippa Williams, for families who are experiencing Child to Parent Violence and other very challenging behaviours.

To book support, please visit our helpline page

We are also hoping to set up a regular “drop-in” forum for professionals/practitioners who are working with families using NVR.
