Covid-19

Covid-19 continues to affect of our daily lives. We know that adoptive families have extra challenges to face, and we’re here for you.

Join us for our FESTIVAL OF FAMILIES, in association with One Adoption West Yorkshire, for a host of expert webinars from the 18th - 22nd January.

Assemble your Superheroes for our SUPERHERO SATURDAY events for children aged 4-11.

The pages and resources below were compiled last year and have been updated in light of the ongoing situation. We have kept adoptive families at the heart of these pages. We hope that they will give you a bit of extra support and guidance. If you need more from these pages, please do get in touch.

We've also put together an extensive FAQ which you can access at the following link Corona Virus: Adoption UK FAQ

If you have any major health concerns regarding the Coronavirus please head to the NHS website, which contains all the latest information.

How AUK can help

  • Our Helpline team are on the end of a phone or email should you need specific parenting or adoption advice, a listening ear or help with practical suggestions. Call us on 0300 666 0006 or email the helpline directly: [email protected]

  • We 'get it' and we understand that there is usually that extra layer of worry for our families especially at times like this. If you want a friendly chat with people that really do understand, then why not sign up to our Forum?

  • Adoption UK members have access to a network of local community groups, led by a fantastic team of experienced volunteers who are all adopters themselves. In the current climate, our physical meetings have been suspended, but members can still engage with their local community via messaging groups and virtual meetings hosted online. For more information about joining as a member visit here (link to membership sign up page) or if you're an existing member email [email protected] to be connected with your local group co-ordinator. You can find out more becoming a member.

  • Our social media channels will be regularly updated so if you don't already, please do follow us (or your regional team) on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

We want to thank you for all you do to help us be there for adoptive families. Your ongoing support for the work we do is greatly appreciated.

The myth of ‘catching up’ after Covid-19

When I was in secondary school, my parents requested permission to remove me from school during term time for a week to go on a holiday of a lifetime. The school reluctantly agreed, on the condition that I would work hard to ‘catch up’ the work that I missed.
