This Volunteers’ Week (June 1-7 2022), Adoption UK is taking the opportunity to say thank you to its many volunteers, and acknowledge the significant difference they make in supporting the adoption community.

Volunteers’ week, now in its 38th year, is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people across the UK make by volunteering (in 2020/21, 16.3m people volunteered through a group, club or organisation*). Volunteers’ Week 2022 is taking place during the Month of Community, which encourages people to think about and join in with activities happening in their local communities.

Adoption UK offers many different types of volunteering roles – including running community support groups, fundraising, liaising with and making recommendations to regional adoption agencies and peer mentorship.

Alison Woodhead, Adoption UK’s director of public affairs and communications, said: “Our organisation is incredibly lucky to have so many fantastic, dedicated volunteers. They make a huge contribution, working tirelessly to support and connect their local adoption communities and influencing positive change. We recognise the impact they have and appreciate the work they do every day of every week – but Volunteers’ Week is the perfect time to say thank you.

“As well as helping, encouraging and supporting others, volunteering is a great way to meet other adoptive families in your area, make new friends, increase your confidence and learn new skills. We hope that it’s also fun!”

Adoption UK is hosting a virtual Volunteer Quiz Night on June 7 2022, 8pm-9pm, to bring its volunteers together to celebrate the work they do. Adoption UK volunteers who want to attend the event can request a joining link from the community team ([email protected]).
