After a year and half of editing Adoption Today (for the second time), I am handing over the baton to new editor Kate Marsh. Kate has joined Adoption UK from Future Publishing where she worked on long-form magazines known as bookazines. She is whipping our magazine production into shape and getting across all things adoption and kinship-related. Your December edition is already well under way. I’d like to welcome Kate to her new role. She is already settling in and getting on with the job with skill and energy. I’m not leaving the Adoption UK fold and still have an interest in Adoption Today, so I won’t be disappearing entirely.

Adoption Today is Adoption UK’s much-loved magazine, which brings members news, tips and stories from a broad range of perspectives. Each issue is shipped off to thousands of households, schools and social work teams across the country, where it is passed around and shared by many more.

Working as the Adoption Today editor is nothing short of a privilege and that’s because of its readers and contributors. Over the years, I’ve interviewed and worked with hundreds of people who have generously shared their experiences, opinions and knowledge. Some see the magazine as a dying form of communication, but for many of us it as an essential means of giving space and time for the telling of complex and nuanced stories. Neither the Tweet, the Facebook post or the Instagram story do justice to the lives and experiences of many of those that Adoption Today serves.

I’d like to thank the many contributors and members who during my time as editor, have entrusted me with their stories. I’ve learnt so much from you and you make Adoption Today the interesting, vibrant and informative magazine that it is.
