Lillybelle, aged 11, has written a book about her adoption journey called In My Own Words. In her blog she writes about the advice she would give to her younger self.

Recently I found a journal that I had kept at the start of my adoption journey. When I read it, I decided to write a letter to my younger self. I wanted to let her know that it was going to be alright.

Because when you are 6 and sent to live with strangers, things do not feel alright.

I find that writing helps me to make sense of my thoughts and feelings.

At that time I didn’t feel like I had a voice or a choice.  Now I am home and feeling settled I am starting to find my voice again. So, I have decided to use it to tell other children that they are amazing and deserving of amazing things just like I am!  It may feel scary at times, use your voice to tell your story and ask for help if you need it. If you can’t say it out loud then write it or draw it. Just don’t keep your feelings locked inside your head. Let yourself be happy and live your life even if it is with other people, they are here to help you on your journey. You may even end up having awesome adventures along the way!

Be kind to yourself always.

Love Lillybelle xXx
