Fife Council (Family Placement Service)

  • Service overview: We offer formal awareness raising sessions about FASD 3 times a year. These sessions are open to foster carers, adopters and kinship carers who can book themselves on. The sessions last about 4 hours and are designed to raise awareness of what FASD is, how it can impact a child, the symptoms and strategies to support someone with FASD. We have also offered ad-hoc shorter sessions to other groups (residential workers from children's homes). Foster carers who are looking after a child with FASD can request support from their allocated social worker who can then either provide support directly or ask for another professional to give advice. Adopters can also ask the Adoption Team directly for support which would be provided.

  • Referral: For foster carers no, they have an allocated worker. Adopters would tend to make a referral themselves to ask for support.
