About us Jobs The Bridge Work Experience Programme An Equal Chance for Adopted Young People Adoption UK has launched a work placement scheme for adopted young people. The Bridge (initially being piloted in Oxfordshire) will uniquely meet the challenges experienced by some adopted young people by ensuring placements are tailored to the individual. It aims to prepare trainees for the world of work and improve their confidence and employment prospects. The four-week work experience placements have been secured in organisations where staff will be trained to understand the challenges facing adopted young people who may face learning, social and emotional difficulties because of early life experiences. Both the employers and young people will be supported by Adoption UK for the duration of the placement – with the inclusion of a peer mentor who has experienced the transition from education to work as an adopted person. Adoption UK’s corporate partner, IT services company PMC, has funded the scheme and is also hosting two trainees. Project lead, Scott Casson-Rennie of Adoption UK, said: “There are a large number of adoptees currently not in education, employment or training (NEET) in the UK and the longer they are NEET the less likely they are to access further education or employment. The Bridge will provide an opportunity for some of these young people to experience a supported work experience placement and hopefully give them some of the tools and skills needed to find work in the future. We aim to improve their confidence and self-worth as well as give them relationship building experience and help them push themselves out of their comfort zone. We hope they will leave with a sense of purpose and achievement.” We are currently accepting expressions of interest from young people who wish to take part and are based in or around Oxfordshire. Please have a read of our pre-application questions (see below) and if you are still interested, complete the below application form (both young people and their parents/carers need to fill in the form).
