Adoption Today special feature: trauma-fuelled violence
Adoption UK has produced a special feature on trauma-fuelled violence with advice from adopters and experts on how best to deal with the challenge of aggressive behaviours.
Through Adoption Today we asked our members to share the strategies, approaches and resources that have helped their families to cope with aggressive behaviours.
At the same time BBC Radio 4’s File on 4 team approached Adoption UK with a request to collaborate with them on a survey into modern adoption. We helped them to craft the right questions and then reached out to our members and contacts within the adoption community. The response to the survey was overwhelming, with 3,000 adopters completing the questionnaire.
File on 4’s investigation Adoption: Families in Crisis, broadcast in September, shone a light on the often taboo issue of children displaying violence to other family members. Our helplines have seen a marked increase in the number of calls from adoptive parents requesting help, guidance or advice on trauma-fuelled violence, since the programme was broadcast.
In response, Adoption UK has decided to share the content on trauma-fuelled violence in Adoption Today with all adopters, by publishing this special feature on our website.
The publication also includes information on peer to peer support for violent and aggressive behaviours as well as an exclusive feature from the producer of the File on 4 investigation.
