Hours: Part-time multiple vacancies from 3.5 hours to 21 hours

Our Parent Partner Service has grown in Scotland and therefore we are looking for additional Parent Partners to provide direct peer support to adopters (including face to face, telephone and video conferencing), working closely with other stakeholders and Adoption UK staff to help adoptive families access support services in line with their TESSA Support Plan. Part of the FASD role will be supporting families who have come through referrals from FASD Hub Scotland.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has personal experience of adoption as an adoptive parent (parenting a child with FASD) with sound knowledge of adoption issues and safeguarding.  You need to be committed, flexible and be able to work on your own initiative.  Some of the main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Provide peer support to adopters, including acting as the named first line of support, assisting them to access TESSA and other services as directed and supporting families in their application of learning.
  • To communicate effectively and sensitively with families being supported, wherever they are in the adoption process.
  • Develop a knowledge of support services available to families from Adoption UK and other organisations, as well as current policy and practice, and impart that information to the families on how best to access these services.
  • Work collaboratively with the TESSA Clinical Psychologist, TESSA Coordinator, FASD Hub Scotland Advisors, Therapists and trainers as required to help Adoption UK ensure families receive services in line with their support plan. Working on behalf of families where necessary and, in cases where families may be struggling, to escalate concerns to senior staff as indicated and required.
  • Contribute to and maintain accurate records for those using the service, on Adoption UK systems and ensuring compliance with both GDPR and Adoption Support Agency regulatory requirements.

Adoption UK is required to comply with a pre-employment vetting process for all prospective employees. Prospective employees of Adoption UK are to meet the following requirements;

  • Complete a satisfactory PVG check
