Adoptive parents have a last chance to provide a snap-shot of what it is like to adopt in modern-day Britain.

Adoption UK has co-produced a questionnaire for adopters, in partnership with the BBC.

The survey, which was emailed out to all Adoption UK members, touches on a range of issues including post adoption support, child-on-parent violence and adoption disruption.

So far almost 3,000 adoptive parents have completed the survey. Its results will help the BBC to form an in-depth investigation into adoption in the 21st Century. This will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4’s File on 4 on Tuesday 26th September at 8pm and will be repeated again at 5pm on Sunday 1st October.

The results will also provide the adoptive community with the latest independent evidence about the reality of modern adoption, which is a priceless resource for Adoption UK in our mission to inform and influence policymakers.

Dr Sue Armstrong Brown, Adoption UK’s chief executive, said: “We are always very keen to work with our members and other adoptive parents, whenever possible. Having the most up-to-date evidence from the adoption community is essential for us when lobbying government to improve the lives of adoptive families.

“We were delighted when the BBC approached us with this request because, as the voice of adopters, we felt the opportunity to help shape this survey and raise awareness around some of the challenges facing adoptive families today, was an opportunity too good to miss.”

The survey – which should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete – has been commissioned by the BBC. Respondents will not be asked for any of their personal details and so complete anonymity is guaranteed. If you’d like to get in touch with the programme-makers to talk about your experiences then please email fileon4@bbc.co.uk.

Adoption UK and the BBC would like to thank, in advance, anyone who takes the time to complete the survey.

The deadline for respondents to complete and submit the questionnaire is 11.59pm on Wednesday 6th September.
