Adoption Champion of the Year award won by Adoption UK manager
Published: 19.10.16Scott Casson-Rennie, Adoption UK's Senior Regional Manager, has won the Adoption Champion of the Year 2016 award.
Scott, who received his award at the annual National Adoption Week awards ceremony in London on Tuesday 18th October, described the accolade as: "totally unexpected".
Scott (pictured on the right) and his partner Tris (on the left) are a same sex couple who adopted siblings Frasier, 18, and Brandon, 17, in 2007 - and more recently adopted Jacob, 10, in December 2015.
On Twitter, Scott wrote: "We are both absolutely delighted!
"No words. I am seriously totes emosh as I really didn't expect to win.
"I thought I dreamt it until I realised I had an extremely bad headache!!"
Scott was nominated for the award by both Peterborough City Council's adoption service and Graham Brogden, Adoption UK's former head of fundraising.
In their written nomination, they wrote about Scott: "This person is a tireless ambassador for adoption. He talks from the most competent of positions – as an adoptive parent of three children. They are comfortable sharing their experiences to help others. They have always been eager to give back and have chaired an adopters support group, delivered presentations at preparation courses and been interviewed by national media to raise awareness of adoption".
Hugh Thornbery CBE Adoption UK's chief executive said: "I was one of the judges so I know the strength of the competition for this prestigious award. Well done Scott - what a privilege to know you and work with you!"
The awards, hosted by First4Adoption, celebrate good practice and exceptional achievement among those working or involved in adoption in the UK.
