‘Rotary rabbits’ and Asda shoppers deliver Easter treat for Adoption UK
Published: 08.04.15Generous shoppers at a West Midlands supermarket donated a whopping £520 to ‘Easter Bunnies’ who were collecting on behalf of Adoption UK.
Members of the Rotary Club of Wylde Green, who were dressed in Easter Bunny outfits, greeted shoppers at Asda in Minworth, near Sutton Coldfield, on Saturday 4 April.
Delighted with the amount raised at the collection Rotarian Helen Bradin said, 'For those of us who have grown up in a loving family environment it is often so sad to see and hear the experiences of those who have been less fortunate. The work of Adoption UK seeks to bridge that gap by sourcing security and happiness with permanent families who have the right support to build brighter futures.'
Graham Brogden, Head of Fundraising for Adoption UK, said: "We are very grateful to the Rotarians for kindly donating their time to staff the collection on Easter Saturday and of course to Asda shoppers for their generous support.
"Being a parent to a traumatised child requires a different kind of parenting and adoptive parents need support to do this. However, the most frequent feedback provided by adoptive families is they get minimal help and are largely left to struggle with the complex challenges of adoption on their own. Adoption UK is uniquely placed to provide this specialist support, raise awareness and understanding of the complexities of adoption by combining the knowledge and expertise from leading authorities in the field with the real-life experiences of adoptive parents. This is why support from organisations like Rotary and the public is vital."
More than 5,000 children were adopted last year and there are currently 6,000 waiting to find a permanent, loving home. Adoption UK helps prospective adopters through the adoption process and is a constant resource once a child has been placed as issues can present themselves post adoption, even several years later. Providing an invaluable helpline, advice and training, Adoption UK also campaigns and lobbies for change and, with the voice of members, helps influence positive change for adoptive families.
