National Adoption Week 2013

This week we are celebrating National Adoption Week...and with adoption on the rise across the UK, we have a lot to celebrate!

We've seen a number of positive policy changes over the last year.

A girl in a ball poolIn England there has been the recent announcement of £19.3 million funding for adoption support, the Pupil Premium Plus will give adopted children additional support in school and parity has been achieved between adoption and maternity pay and leave, and we're starting to see great policy developments informed by our staff in the other nations too.

Friday 1 November
National Adoption Week Launch - Parliamentary event with policy makers and BAAF

Saturday 1 November
Family Celebration day

Adoptive families from across Northern Ireland will be joining BAAF and Adoption UK in celebrating what adoption means to them.

Entertainment will include the fantastic Mr Hullabaloo and the chance for families to participate in a tour of the gaol which has been specifically tailored for this event. Face painting and craft activities will also be available.

Drop-in sessions for anyone thinking about adoption

Come and watch a short film about adoption, have your questions answered and meet Adoption UK and BAAF representatives.

Adoption Attitudes- A Digital Photography Exhibition

The exhibition hosted jointly by voluntary sector adoption organisations in Wales, shows photographs and affirmative statements from a range of individuals whose lives have been personally affected by adoption.

The Deputy Minister will launch the exhibition, with speeches from TalkAdopt Wales, a group of young people who have been adopted, Children's Commissioner and ADSS Lead on National Adoption Service.

Adoption UK Fundraising Pub Quiz

Pit your wits against a crack Adoption UK quiz team at this local pub quiz, where all entrance money plus 10% of the bar takings will go towards our work supporting adoptive families.

Adoption Open Evening- Barking and Dagenham

Come along to the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham's adoption open evening during National Adoption Week to find out how you can become an adoptive parent and have your questions answered.

A bit late but...

The great Carrot Cake-Off

The staff of Adoption UK's Banbury office will be crossing culinary swords in this great battle of the bakes. Staff have been invited to submit a home-made carrot cake for judging by their colleagues. All entry fees and donations from anyone involved in the tasting and judging will go towards our work supporting adoptive families.
