Idiots. Think there's still a fair amount of ignorance about what fostering entails - in the same way lots of people still imagine adoption is all about fuzzy wuzzy babies of fallen women! And some people don't know that there's a difference !

Never listen to phone-in shows! They are guaranteed to make you unbearably angry.

I wonder often how many 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' types work for nothing but expenses, or take their 'work' on holiday with them?

It makes me smile that the same people who think fc are mercenary for being paid would be the first to object if they went to the gp to find out they were operating in a voluntary capacity. Or if they discovered their childs teacher was actually just a do gooder with no training would they be happy with that ? Foster caring (like teaching and gp etc ) is much more than job as we all know.

No one would ever do this just for the money..... we are stressed and I am upset most days by the way we are treated by one of our children who we foster. People who think its a job and all about money want to live a day in my shoes... they would sharp run away!!

P.s bobbyboo. I dont know about you but i have never considered fostering to be a job! It has been my life for the last 13 yrs and will be from here on in as i foster long term children with v complex needs and i am adopting youngest at the moment so no retirement for me!

fostering is not a job for me either, though I do still need to feed my own family, run the heating and car etc. I'm in the fortunate position of having an independent income aside from fostering or I simply couldn't offer the service I do. and probably little in the way of retirement for many foster carers becoz, as we all know, we don't get a pension anymore than we are paid an income
