Children who wait

Has anyone been matched through Children Who Wait? Our VA does not subscribe to it. Is it worth it?!

Thanks

Hi Hopefuls 2. We weren't matched through children who wait but do still have our subscription. There are currently 21 children's profiles on display. Most are sibling groups of 2-5 children and a few individual children of varying ages. We had more possible links via link maker but ultimately our VA found our LO. Hope that helps and best of luck.

I made an enquiry regarding a child in that magazine 2 weeks ago still not heard anything and did not receive the type of response I was expecting and neither did anybody get in touch with my SW about it. Not impressed so far

Hi Gaz80. Sorry to hear that the social worker has not yet been in contact. Once you have made your enquiry, it is up to the social worker to respond. The Children Who Wait team do encourage social workers to respond promptly to all enquiries although unfortunately due to absences, holidays etc this is not always possible. If you would like to email us at familyfinding@adoptionuk.org.uk with more information we will certainly see if there is anything we can do to help. Best wishes. Children Who Wait team

We found our daughter through CWW many years ago - once we made the initial expression of interest - by phone - they contacted our SW who pursued the enquiry - definitely worth a try - though I do think its for harder to place children and now there are many more options

Hi

I saw a sibling group on CWW . Felt very drawn to one sibling but disgarded as we only have room for one in our small home. Couple months later a sw from another LA approached our SW as seen our profiles on adoption register asking us to look at profile of a LO. We read all info before deciding to look at photo. After discussing that there was nothing on the profile that we could not manage we were shown pic . Stunned to see it was the pic of the one sibling on CWW that wwe felt drawn to. LA had decided to seek separate homes. So in a roundabout way yes!!

Our first child was in CWW , older child than we had originally thought we wanted but was the one we felt was right and his SW agreed. If you want to explore all options or have been waiting a while ( as we were, being older adopters and living In a small county with few kids available for adoption ) I would recommend including CWW in your options. Especially if you can consider a harder to place child or are considering sibling group( though there are reasons to be wary of this( check out "Trauma bonds" , " sibling assessments" and "unhelpful roles" (carer, favoured child, scapegoat, etc). I am firmly convinced that it was because we were applying for an older child, generally considered hard to place, that we got the chance to adopt, because as older adopters we would never have been considered for a young child.

Hey Pingu

Our LO was at very top of age range we were approved for and considered hard to place. We are older adopters too and live in a county were there are very few options. We are very happy .That does not mean we are without challenges or difficulties xx

Hi Dreamwriter, It sounds like we we have some experiences in common then, sometimes it just seems like a match was meant to be be. (challenges and difficulties included here as well !!! ) very different experience for us later with a second child, but CWW was part of that first match. It wasn't even the latest edition but one forwarded to us by friends who were also on the adoption pathway.

Hopefuls2 , whatever you decide, hope things work out ok. Pingu
