BME couples & linking with minority children

Report content

Just wondering how other BME couples have found searching or being linked/matched with BME children. We are due to go to approval panel soon and have already started family finding with our agency, joined the sites as you do & We are being very proactive.

We did have our family profile sent of for a little boy last week which we heard nothing back from but his information has since been removed from CWW & BMP so we no thats a non starter.

Hi, we are a dual heritage couple (black/white) and were approved last April and linked within six weeks of approval with a dual heritage (black/white) six month blue. Our friends who are black British were linked within a similar timescale. We were also inundated with profiles and callous as it may sound probably had options in terms of links. Thanks to some perhaps over zealous interpretation of a major Court decision by sws and lower Courts there are undoubtedly fewer children coming through but I think it is fair to say that there are still fewer dual heritage and Black British/Africa/Caribbean adopters compared to the numbers of children of those backgrounds. That is my experience but I don't know whether that is the same experience for people of all ethnicities. Are you with an LA or VA? What have your sws said to you about matching?

Hi ya thanks for replying x

We're with a VA and they seem very opptomistic based on previos cases however we already know there not any close (east midlands ) and that we will need to look in bigger cities & down south. Just thought i'd ask what others are experiencing as we have seen very few single bme non medical on CWW & bmp since sept.

Hi. Many, many LAs do not place children on BMP or CWW if they are young or what they consider easy to place. So dont be disheartened from the lists you have seen. I am white but my LO didn't even make it onto the LA list, let alone the national register. I know my LA has a number of under 2s who are BME. But you are probably right, the large cities are the most likely areas. Good luck at panel. G

Adoption link has more children than cww and bmp and very young minority children pop up there quite regularly... I think Gilbertus has a point and also cww especially is pants recently, after the success of adoption link I don't think many LAs want to pay the very high fees of adoptionuk! If I knew how things were I wouldn't have subscribed to cww at all, it's far too expensive for the less than 40 children featured there for the past several months.

Hello. We are a dual heritage (black & white) couple. We were approved last March and link in July. We found our little one 17 month old blue in adoption links.

Thanks for all your comments, i guess we'll just have to wait till were approved (not long now hopefully) then we can check adoption link x

just a Happy update x

Approved last wednesday and already seeing profiles plus we have a possible link :-) even if nothing comes of it it's left me feeling very optimist that having our own child is really going to happen.

Hi Geekgirl24.

Congratulations on your approval!

Like yourself, we have only recently been approved and have had three enquiries from social workers. My husband and I are a dual heritage couple (black/white). We have also enquired about a child on CWW, but I do agree that CWW doesn't have as many children as it did 18months ago. We are optimistic about how long it will take for us to be linked with a child, but like yourself we are excited about the prospect of being parents in the foreseeable future. I will try and keep you updated on our progress.
