Thank you, it's been 6weeks so far so will sit on our hands for a bit longer. Xx

It's hard waiting. Ours was pretty much 7wks exactly. Fingers crossed for you it won't be much longer x

You only get the short form certificate initially - you have to apply for the long form which you'll need for a passport.

Must be different in Scotland we got both at same time.

Thanks everyone, thinking of going to the registry office tomorrow with all CRT papers and seeing if we can get the long version. Anyone tried this?

This link shows how to get copies of adoption certificates in England (assuming you are in England?)

They come from the central registry - I think its in Lytham. Going to a local office might be a waste of time. You have to buy the ling cert you'll need for the passport, its not free.

Google the National Registry Office and give them a ring.

We actually got a passport for our AD (long time ago now, 10 years) with her original long form birth certificate, the adoption order and a note from the presiding judge. It may help that we are based in London. We literally ran from the Family Court to the passport office and got the passport on the same day. Things may have changed but it might be worth asking if this is an option. We did tell the court beforehand that we needed the passport immediately so that AD could travel to meet her grandparents who live abroad; they were very understanding.

For anyone who thinks that this doesn't sound like a good adoption day celebration for AD - we did go to the zoo afterwards Smile

Peahen.

Slight hijack here - I am a bit confused having followed Citizens Advice Bureau link. I thought we had to apply for a long form BIRTH CERTIFICATE. I tried to do this online but ended up with an ADOPTION certificate. I thought I must have asked for the wrong thing. But CAB seems to say this is right. What do people who've done this successfully have?

No that's right. The long form does state adoption certificate rather than birth certificate. That's the one you need for a passport.

Hi there

We had short birth certificate given about 6 weeks post AO and recently applied for passport for LO. Short BC was not accepted so we ended up paying for a adoption certificate which cost £20 or £30 (cant remember which) in order to get passport with our family name.

Sorry to but in but I'm in a similar position. Adoption order granted almost 4 weeks ago and waiting for new bc. Can I go ahead and apply for the long one or do I need to wait until I get the short one from court?

You could call the passport office, if there is a reason you need it soon. We needed our's urgently because we wanted to attend a wedding abroad, so the court marked it "urgent" and the passport office did it in a day, if remember correctly. Everyone was incredibly helpful.

Thanks everyone,

We did go to the registration office today, but we were told we had to apply either by phone or online for the BC as it's an adoption.

We just wanted to apply for her passport today as we had the Crt Celebration and it felt fitting.

Just a note our SW said we would have to apply online for the long BC and that you need to wait for a few weeks following the AO for the paperwork to catch up.

Good luck and many thanks for all the comments as it seems it's something that is just not discussed. I guess we all get caught up with being parents. Smile xxxx

The paperwork for LO was processed yesterday 6 weeks after the AO. Long BC on its way to us. Happy days Smile xxxx
