Getting Ready For Placement provides information on practical ways to prepare for family life, identify ways of helping a child move into a new family and parenting strategies which build attachments while respecting the child’s past and maintaining safe and developmentally appropriate boundaries. 

A two day workshop Tuesday 25th April 9.30am -1pm (part 1); Tuesday 2nd May 9.30 – 1pm (part 2)

Based on the need of participants, your trainer will help you to discuss and consider the following areas when preparing for a placement:

  • explore the feelings and experiences common to parents and children waiting for a placement
  • reflect on how our experiences and feelings differ from those of our children
  • reflect on what we bring into this new relationship
  • consider practical ways in which we can prepare for adoption
  • explore the importance of matching and introductions
  • identify ways of helping the child move into a new family
  • the process of developing attachments
  • examine ways in which parents can connect with hurt children
  • identify how you may be able to manage dysregulated behaviour
  • have identified sources of self-care and support
