Complexities of contact

This one day workshop will help you to consider the benefits and challenges of contact with your child’s birth family. This course will help you to consider the purpose of contact, the impact it has on children and families, and to set contact in a historical and legal framework. 

By the end of the course your trainer will have helped you to discuss and consider: 

• the legal and historical context in which decisions about contact are made
• the purpose of contact
• the importance of identity for participants and their children
• how increasing your knowledge and understanding about contact can improve contact arrangements for the benefit of our children
• the experience of contact from the perspective of the child, the birth family and adoptive parents
• the benefits and challenges associated with contact
• ways in which contact can be supported and improved
