Education membership is ideal for anyone working in a professional capacity in an education setting with children and young people who are classed as ‘Looked After’ or ‘Previously Looked After’

The membership has been developed to help professionals develop knowledge, skills and networks of support to enable you to achieve the very best provision of care and learning for vulnerable pupils.

Why join Adoption UK

Most adopted children have suffered neglect, abuse or violence in early childhood. Fewer than half reach expected levels at KS2 and fewer than one in four secure five good GCSEs (including English and Maths). They  are more likely to have social, emotional and mental health difficulties and are 20 times more likely to be permanently excluded. And early trauma doesn't just affect adopted children; children in foster care or kinship care, children who have experienced domestic violence, and bereaved children can also struggle in school.

But an understanding, compassionate school can make the world of difference to these children's resilience, their relationships and their life chances -it can give them an equal chance. Understanding why children who have experienced loss, trauma, abuse or neglect may behave in a certain way, what triggers this behaviour and how best to support them, can have a positive effect on everyone's experience in the classroom.

Adoption UK has in-house education expertise and a wide network of teachers, policy makers and parents.

We provide highly tailored training materials to contribute to your continuing professional development and to help you equip others in your school.
