From September 1st 2020, Kinship Care Advice Service for Scotland will be led by Adoption UK Scotland and AFA Scotland. Read our FAQ for more details.

Based on the Non Violent Resistance or NVR approach it helps parents to connect with their child and manage difficult behaviours. It is a therapeutic way of parenting that engages the child to develop positive self confidence and helps create a harmonious family life.

Many families struggle with physical, psychological and emotional behaviour used by children and adolescents to gain control or power over their parent/s or carer/s. This child to parent violence (CPV) is increasingly recognised as a major factor in the breakdown of adoption and foster care placements.

The workshop will give you a greater understanding of CPV and provide practical skills and strategies that can be used over time to alleviate difficult and distressing behaviours. The training will look at meeting both the needs of the child and the parent, how to manage anxiety and ideas of support building to have a more connected relationship with your child.
