Adoption UK is delighted to have been chosen to organise Adoption Week Scotland (Monday 19 – Saturday 24 November) alongside AFA Scotland once again this year, after being awarded a two-year contract by the Scottish Government to co-ordinate the 2018 and 2019 events.

A family event in Edinburgh will kick things off on Saturday 17th November, and activities will continue from 19-23 November.

  • Our friends at Argyll and Bute Council family placement team are holding a series of Adopters Support Groups during during Adoption Week Scotland. Details of venues will be sent directly to adopters we already know, but we are keen to meet others who we have not met before if you live in our area.   • Our friends Fife Council are holding a conference during Adoption Week Scotland - 'Adoption is a Lifelong Journey' They will be celebrating Adoption in Fife with adopters, Permanence Panel Members, Social Workers & colleagues in our partner agencies with guest speakers Julie Otto, author of 'Instructions not supplied', and Janette Dunn speaking of her own adoption journey.   • Our friends at SACS Adoption - St Andrew's Children's Society are holding this training workshop for adoptive parents in how to speak to your children about adoption during Adoption Week Scotland on Thursday 22nd November 10-12.30?   • During the Year of the Young People 2018 we invite you to attend a conference that has been planned and developed by a group of adopted young people, who want you to come and hear what they have to say about their experience of adoption in Scotland. We invite you to join us for a day of informative workshop discussions, an interactive panel of young people and viewing of a film that was created by a group of adopted young people highlighting issues affecting adoptees at different stages of their life. Exciting update for our Adopted voices conference taking place during Adoption Week Scotland on Monday 19th November. 
    We are delighted to be featuring Nicky Murray, We will be joined by Nicky Murray, Head teacher of Burnside Primary School, Carnoustie as part of our Education panel.
    The school has 500 children, and in their recent HMI inspection they were considered ‘one of the best schools in the country for wellbeing, inclusion and equality’.   • Our friends St Margaret's Adoption Society are holding a series of events for Adoption Week Scotland. As Friday 16th November is the feast of St Margaret of Scotland their main event for our families will be on this day instead of the following week. However, during adoption week itself, they will be running an information event on Thursday 22nd November. The following week they are also offering a training course on ACEs and the impact of learning. Free courses running during #AdoptionWeekScotland itself are fully booked!   • Our friends at Scottish Borders Fostering and Adoption are holding an Adoption Information “Drop In” on Wednesday 21st November (4.30 to 6pm) at Scottish Borders Council HQ, Newtown St Boswells. Members of the team will be there to answer any questions and there will be information packs available for anyone interested in finding out more about the adoption process during Adoption Week Scotland
