Below is the winning entry for the Autumn 2008 Online Community Poetry Competition, on the theme of ‘the child’, written by Ness.
I am the sum of all my parts, The sperm, the egg, the abandoners,
The provider, the carer, my rescuers.
A pool of qualities, personalities, histories. A swirl of influences, nationalities, difference.
Four times values Four times motives
Four times beliefs
Wrestling.
Two embodied, demand respect, seek control. Two ethereal, invisible, tug. Mysterious, longed for,
The fantasies grow.
The child desperate to fill the void. The question, why? Why did you leave me?
This is not my place.
Who Am I? Torture, rebellion, a defiant stand.
You can not help me.
Leave me alone.
The search brings answers and yet not peace. The wrong can not be undone.
The black void remains
A part of me.
The revelation. Awakening, awareness.
Feel feelings,
Embrace the pain.
And now, Acceptance key, I see.
That which I am
Is
That which I have always been.
