Places to see world renowned child trauma expert Dr Bruce Perry speaking at Adoption UK Northern Ireland’s spring conference next year are now available.

Dr Perry is Medical Director of the Child Trauma Academy in Houston Texas.

A child and adolescent psychiatrist and a neuroscientist, he is an expert in high-risk children and a much sought after consultant in high profile trauma cases, such as the Columbine school shooting, and with policy- making bodies such as the White House Summit on Violence.

When he visits Northern Ireland in April, he will be talking to adopters and prospective adopters about his recent work, exploring how childhood experiences such as neglect, trauma and stress, change the biology of the brain, affecting the health and development of the child.

Places cost £30 for Adoption UK members (£45 for non-members), and £75 for practitioner members (£95 for non-members).

Author of over 300 journal articles, book chapters and scientific proceedings, Dr Perry also wrote The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog: What Traumatized Children Can Teach Us About Loss, Love and Healing, and has won several professional awards

He has also conducted neuroscience research examining the effects of prenatal drug exposure on brain development, and developed innovative clinical programmes for children recovering from neglect and abuse.
